We’ll be doing a TTIP Free Kirklees stall in Huddersfield on February 13th. Please join us and ask local people to urge their councillors to support a TTIP Free Zone motion in council.
The stall will take place from 12.00 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. (see bottom of article for practical arrangements).
Across the country, 34 councils have voted for a TTIP Free Zone motion. You can see the list of councils here http://action.globaljustice.org.uk/ea-campaign/action.retrievestaticpage.do?ea_static_page_id=4189
You can find out more about the national TTIP Free Zone campaign on www.ttipfreezone.org. Global Justice Now and Unison have together produced a briefing and model motion (Global Justice Now’s TTIP briefing for local authorities)outlining the threat that TTIP represents for local democracy.
We launched our petition and campaign in September (https://kirkleescampaignagainstclimatechange.wordpress.com/2015/09/07/we-launch-ttip-free-kirklees-petition/)
If you would like to sign the petition, please EITHER:
- download the Word version of the petition, fill in your details and send back to us (‘TTIP Free Kirklees’ petition effective from 1 Feb 2016).
- OR complete this e-petition directly to your councillors (our petition corresponds exactly to the wording of the e-petition) on http://action.globaljustice.org.uk/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=1784&ea.campaign.id=41431&ea.tracking.id=act .
If you complete this and get a reply, we’d be grateful if you could forward the email to us. We’re planning to publish the positions of councillors on our website. (Updated 17.2.16: Click here to find out which councillors have stated their position in response to the petition.)
We’re going to be campaigning for a TTIP Free Kirklees between now and July – or earlier, if the motion is passed before then. We’ll be working with other groups on this, particularly the 38 Degrees group based in North Kirklees. You can find out more about our approach in our TTIP Free Kirklees campaign strategy.
If you’d like to read about the need to stop TTIP as part of climate campaigning, we have some useful documents in the TTIP section on our resources page https://kirkleescampaignagainstclimatechange.wordpress.com/useful-resources-2/
If you would like to join us for the stall please contact us by Thursday 11th February.
If you would like to be kept informed of any last-minute changes or cancellations (e.g. due to poor weather) please email us your mobile phone number.
We may be moving around different locations in town so, on this occasion, it may not be possible for you to join us without prior arrangement.
