UPDATE 30/9/15 – PLEASE NOTE:
EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO BREAKING NEWS ON 30/9/15
“The electrification of two railway lines is to be restarted after the projects were halted so a review could be carried out, the government says.
Work on the TransPennine Express Railway – between Manchester and York – and Midland Mainline – from London to Sheffield – was paused in June.
Sir Peter Hendy, Network Rail chairman, said the “temporary pause” had “given us the space to develop a better plan”.
Transport minister Patrick McLoughlin said work could now resume immediately.”
We are pleased to announce the times for the Transpennine #northern powercut relay that will be taking place on Saturday 17th October (Rail relay Itinerary).
On October 17th two relays will be taking place on train lines previously ear-marked for electrification but disappointed by a recent government U-turn. Midland Mainline campaigners will travel up from London to Sheffield via stations including Market Harborough and Leicester https://www.facebook.com/events/417326108471304/ to promote their petition for electrifying the line. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/electrify-midland-mainline
We are a group of Transpennine campaigners who will be travelling from Manchester to Leeds via Huddersfield and Dewsbury before ending our route in Sheffield to join up with the Midland Mainline campaigners.
The purpose of our relay will be to raise awareness of the electrification issue and its potential benefits to the North and to support the Manchester Evening News and Huddersfield Examiner ‘Northern Power Cut’ petition calling for electrification of the Transpennine route. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stopthenorthernpowercut
