Join us for a double event on 5/9/15: Rail rip off protest & ‘Say No to TTIP’ stall

Action for rail logo

Our double-action this Saturday, starts at 11.30. From 11.30-1pm, we’ll be at Huddersfield train station protesting against the recently-announced round of rail fare rises and asking people to support public ownership of the railways. Please come and join us!

Most investment comes from taxpayers and in 2013/14 this was £3.8 bn. Meanwhile, private train companies paid out £183m in shareholder dividends. Public ownership could fund ad 10% cut in fares.

There was a nationwide day of action on 18 August. Here’s full coverage of the protests   https://www.facebook.com/events/1690126694556772/ and here’s coverage in the Guardian of the issues http://www.theguardian.com/money/2015/aug/18/unions-protest-as-rail-fares-rise-three-times-faster-than-wages-over-five-years

If you would like to join us, please feel free to turn up. If you would like to be informed of any changes or cancellations, please email us your mobile phone number by 9am on Friday 4th September.

TTIP Logo

Straight after our #railripoff protest we will be joining Planet Festival (1p.m. – 4 p.m.), organised by Huddersfield Friends of the Earth at Greenhead Park.

We’ll be running a ‘Say No to TTIP’ stall. We have lots of materials to give away: stickers, badges, posters, leaflets, booklets, ‘Stop TTIP Times’ newspapers and postcards. Please come and join us!

We’ll be launching our new initiative for the autumn, which is a campaign to make Kirklees a ‘TTIP Free Zone’. Several councils across the country have passed motions opposing TTIP, including, locally, Sheffield and Bradford. You can read more information about this, including the model motion on www.ttipfreezone.org.uk/

At Planet Festival we’ll be asking people to sign our petition calling on Kirklees Council to support a TTIP Free Zone motion.

If you would like to join us, please feel free to turn up. If you would like to be informed of any changes or cancellations, please email us your mobile phone number by 9am on Friday 4th September.
