“Forget everything you think you know about global warming. It’s not about carbon – it’s about capitalism.  The good news is that we can seize this existential crisis to transform our failed economic system and build something radically better.”

“Climate change is a civilizational wake-up call, a powerful message delivered in the language of fires, floods, storms and droughts. Confronting it is no longer about changing the light bulbs. It’s about changing the world – before the world changes so drastically that no-one is safe.

“Either we leap- or we sink”

Naomi Klein, ‘This Changes Everything’

On Saturday 4th July we’ll be presenting a festival of over a dozen short films exploring themes of environmental and social justice. Last year Naomi Klein’s book ‘This Changes Everything: the climate vs capitalism’ was released. We’ll show films that look at the climate crisis but also the triumph of neo-liberalism which has made solutions much more difficult. Finally, we’ll show films exploring positive alternatives and attempts to transform our failed economic system.

The festival will take place on Saturday 4th July from 11am to 6pm at the Red and Green Club, Milnsbridge (HD3 4LU). The event includes screenings and discussions.

The festival is organised into three different sessions.

The first session is entitled ‘Land, Air, Water: Extreme energy & community alternatives’. It includes films from five different continents: films about students exploring the tar sands of Alberta, the financing of mining in Indonesia, a Brazilian wind turbine school and an apple harvesting project in London.

The second session, named ‘An Economy for the People: Past, Present and Future’, includes a documentary made to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Miner’s Strike, ‘With Banners Held High’, and a series of films documenting recent anti-austerity struggles produced by Reel News.

The final session, named ‘False Solutions vs Real Solutions’, includes Ian Crane’s new film about fracking called ‘Voices from the Gasfields’ and the ‘One Million Climate Jobs’ film.

Further details on the full running order and running times are available on the Film festival poster and the This Changes Everything Film Festival Programme.

All are welcome to join us for all or part of this FREE event. Donations to the Red and Green Club are welcome.
