ECO-nomy meeting explores ways to make economy work for people and planet

The ‘ECO-nomy’ meeting that was held on 27th November was great success. We were delighted to have such a wide range of informed speakers who offered interesting presentations and responded thoughtfully to questions.

Thank you to Simon Brett (PCS Green rep in Leeds), Martin Empson (Campaign Against Climate Change) and Chris Fitzsimmons (Kirklees Citizen’s Advice Bureau).

Special thanks goes to Paul Salveson, who kindly volunteered to talk about transport after Tosh McDonald of ASLEF had to cancel due to the announcement of the new East Coast franchise earlier in the day. Paul Salveson is a member of the TSSA union, Professor of Transport and Logistics at the University of Huddersfield and author of ‘Railpolitik: bringing railways back to communities’. He certainly added a great deal to the debate.

We were also really pleased that so many local social and environmental justice groups attended to offer stalls. These included Campaign for Better Transport, Huddersfield Friends of the Earth, Huddersfield Greenpeace, Huddersfield Keep the NHS Public, Kirklees Axe the Tax and Marsden and Slaithwaite Transition Towns (MASTT).
