We enjoyed the really successful talk by Edward Hanna, Professor of Climate Change in Holmfirth on 11th July.
Edward Hanna clearly and concisely communicated the impacts of climate change in the Arctic, the possible effect of this on the jet stream and – in turn – the possible link with extreme weather in the UK. Professor Hanna kindly offered to share the slides of his presentation. When we’ve received these from him, we’ll add the link.
The talk was well attended and we’re grateful for assistance from Holmfirth Transition Town members and Holmfirth Methodist Church. We were also happy to be joined by members of Valley Wind Coop who were collecting signatures for their community wind co-op planning application.
We would also like to thank all the people who made a donation on the evening. Your generous contributions meant we covered nearly all of the costs for the event. The event was organised as part of our Tipping Points campaign which will be running until November 2014.
Our next major event as part of this campaign will be the ‘Vigil for Climate Safety’ on September 19th. This vigil will mark the loss of arctic sea ice and other climate impacts in the past year while standing in solidarity with the global day of action in advance of the UN Climate Summit on 23rd September.
