A weekend to “bend the course of history”

Many of our network have attended vigils to mark the loss of arctic sea ice in September 2012 and 2013.

This year our vigil will be a bit different. The focus on the loss of arctic sea ice will remain (we will have just passed the summer sea ice minimum) but we’ll also be standing in solidarity with the People’s Climate Mobilisation that will be taking place across the world in advance of the UN Climate Summit called by Ban Ki Moon on Monday 23rd September http://www.un.org/climatechange/climate-summit-2014/.

The People’s Climate Mobilisation http://peoplesclimate.org/ has been called by the highly respected 350.org, the team – at least in part – behind the US’ largest climate demonstration to date, the divestment movement and the film ‘Do the Math’.

Bill McKibben of 350.org recently wrote his ‘call to arms’ article in Rolling Stone, urging people to demonstrate to demand climate action in the weekend before 23rd September. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/a-call-to-arms-an-invitation-to-demand-action-on-climate-change-20140521

Since then, more than 300,000 people  have pledged to join the global day of action https://secure.avaaz.org/en/join_to_change_everything/?fLAHrbb&pv=280

Will you be among them? Poster: Vigil 2014 09 19

A weekend to “bend the course of history”

In September, heads of state are going to New York for a historic summit on climate change. With our future on the line, we will take a weekend and use it to bend the course of history.

Our demand is a world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet. In short, a world safe from the ravages of climate change.”http://peoplesclimate.org/

Join with us as we:

+ witness the loss of arctic sea ice.

+ mark the impacts of climate change globally since Sep 2013.

+ call on world leaders, meeting in New York on 24/9/14, to lead the radical action required by the latest science.

Tea lights provided.
