Fracking update: DECC, Kirklees Council’s fracking motion and influencing the Local Plan

webimage

You may recall that Kirklees council passed a motion on shale gas and coal bed methane in January.

One of the points of the motion was that it “Directs officers to send a copy of this motion to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and the Minister of State for the Department for Energy and Climate Change.”

Ed Davey has now replied to Kirklees councillors in a DECC response to Kirklees Council’s motion on fracking.

Last week we met with Kirklees officers about the minerals element of the Local Plan. We also completed a Kirklees Local Plan Early Engagement Questionnaire in which we objected to shale gas and coal bed methane operations happening in the local area. (We were heavily indebted to Friends of the Earth briefings for this.)
